Industry Partnership
& Funding Framework

About service

Funding Framework

NOLA Med Ed collaborates with medical technology companies to advance high-quality, structured healthcare education while maintaining full compliance with federal and Louisiana law.

Two Distinct Funding Pathways

NOLA Med Ed works with industry under two clearly defined models:

1). Program Service Agreements

2). Educational Grants & Sponsorship Support

The appropriate structure depends on the nature of the engagement.

Program Service Agreements

(Workforce & Company-Sponsored Training)

When a MedTech company:

  • Selects attendees
  • Selects faculty
  • Controls curriculum
  • Conducts product-specific training

NOLA Med Ed provides educational infrastructure and logistical services under a written Master Services Agreement.

Under this structure:

  • Payments are treated as program service revenue
  • Fees reflect fair market value
  • No charitable contribution characterization is made
  • All services are documented through written agreements
  • Insurance and compliance requirements apply

This model is typically used for:

  • Sales Team Training
  • Clinical specialist training
  • Company-sponsored surgeon skills programs

Educational Grants & Sponsorship Support

(Independent Education Model)

When NOLA Med Ed independently develops educational programming consistent with its charitable mission, companies may provide financial support in the form of:

  • Unrestricted educational grants
  • Program-specific educational support

Under this structure:

  • NOLA Med Ed maintains control of curriculum
  • Faculty and attendee selection remain independent
  • Support may qualify as a qualified sponsorship payment under applicable IRS regulations
  • All services are documented through written agreements
  • Insurance and compliance requirements apply

NOLA Med Ed does not permit:

  • Attendance tied to product utilization
  • Revenue-sharing arrangements
  • Compensation based on device purchasing

When Is Each Structure Appropriate

  • Internal workforce training (Program Service Agreement)
  • Device-specific surgeon lab (Program Service Agreement)
  • Independent CME-style program (Educational Grant)
  • General educational mission support (Unrestricted Grant)
About Compliance

Fair Market Value & Pricing

All program service fees:

  • Are benchmarked annually
  • Reflect regional market comparables
  • Do not vary based on device sales or purchasing

This protects against private benefit concerns and ensures compliance with 501(c)(3) requirements.

Compliance Safeguards

NOLA Med Ed maintains:

  • Written Master Services Agreements
  • Statement of Work documentation
  • Insurance requirements
  • Anti-Kickback risk review procedures
  • Conflict-of-interest policies

These policies are designed to support responsible industry collaboration while preserving nonprofit integrity.

Important Clarification

NOLA Med Ed does not function as a sales intermediary, marketing agent, or referral source.
